As the project’s reputation grew, it received even more script submissions and six were selected. The company included Kimberly Scott (Tony-nominated actress), Gwenn Victor (Sundance Institute alumni), Jeff Wirth (improvisational theatre expert), and Paul Lieber (winner, Drama Logue Award). The Tribute to Playwrights was continued, expanded and made permanent. Academy Award winner James Lecesne performed his one man show, WORD OF MOUTH. The Guest Artist Series and final staged readings continued to attract increased public participation. The WORDBRIDGE Spring production, PERFECT WOMEN by Barbara Goldman drew large audiences and was well received. Barbara, along with Megan Gogerty, was a returning playwright. WORDBRIDGE ‘98 saw the introduction of an "Artistship" program which continues to be nurtured. Reuters News Service did a story on the project, and a St. Petersburg Cultural Arts grant again provided funds to hire a short-term, part-time coordinator.

Scorpion Delusions by Barbara Goldman -- University of Iowa

The warped story of a love-obsessed poetry professor steeped in the Greek canon, stalked by a student, and hounded by the PC police. When he finds himself the last white male on earth, can he acquit himself of abusing white male privilege or will the Goddesses condemn him to a life in a dyke bar?

The Bear Play by Douglas Hill -- University of Nevada

The presence of a bear's magic and power disrupts the personal territories of six characters as they prepare to face the winter in Northern Michigan.

The Girl Who Lived in a Suitcase by Deborah Wain -- UC – San Diego

A woman looks set to be haunted forever by her childhood in a travelling show until she meets an unlikely kindred soul – a magical play inspired by Anton Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard.

A Remembrance of Miracles by Kenneth Kulhawy -- Arizona State University

The story of a stroke-crippled potter struggling to find again the value of his craft, paralleling a circle of friends fighting to define integrity and justice in their tangled personal lives.

Gabriel Blows by Megan Gogerty -- Jerome Fellow, Playwrights' Center {Minneapolis}

Gabriel, a hurricane, played by an actor as big as a linebacker and as graceful as a funnel cloud, meets Cally Cooper, a performance artist with punk influences.

The Aftergame by Gregory Mitchell -- Arizona State University

The promise of big money lures a con artist, a reformed gambler, and an ambitious young woman into a Las Vegas card-counting scheme that doesn't work out as planned.
