Erik Ramsey [WB96&97, Guest Artist '01) shares teaching duties with Charles Smith in the
MFA Playwriting Program at Ohio University and is also
head of BFA playwriting. His latest play, "Lions Lost
(In Translation)", has been developed at regional
theaters such as Cleveland Public Theatre, the
Tony-award winning Victory Gardens, and Pittsburgh
Irish and Classical Theatre. And, of course, it
received its first workshop at WordBRIDGE. He is
currently writing a historical drama about the
surprising turn of events that boosted Joseph Smith
from life as a small time con-artist to Prophet of the
Mormon Church.
As a professional new play dramaturg he has consulted
on the development of a number of award winning plays
-- most recently Julie Jensen's Dust Eaters, nominated
by the American Theatre Critics Association for best
new play produced outside New York in 2005, and one of
four finalists for the PEN USA 2006 Literary Awards
for Drama. His two textbooks, "The Art of Theatre:
Then and Now", and "Experiencing the Art of Theatre"
have recently been published by Thomson/Wadsworth
(2007), and in January 2007 he was awarded a Kennedy
Center ACTF Faculty Fellowship for his work in new
play development.
Mark Reeves [WB94] is working on a PhD in American studies at Univ. of Utah. His play, THE PILGRIM, is scheduled for performance at the Utah Playwrights Festival, and his children's play, LINDENLAND, has been published.
Kristen Rogers [WB95], previously primarily a prose writer, is currently finishing a new full-length play. She credits her new confidence as a playwright to the encouragement, care and education she received at WordBRIDGE.
Leah Ryan [WB94]. WHERE I'M HEADED was produced in repertory with other 21st Century Playwrights Festival winners by the Gypsy Road Company at the Theatre Row Theatre in NYC. Leah's play, DEBT, was presented in a staged reading hosted by playwright Marsha Norman and novelist Carol Higgins Clark. Leah also received a Julliard Fellowship and a scholarship to the Iowa Playwrights Workshop. Leah Ryan's adaptation of The Cherry Orchard runs only sixty minutes and is wonderfully funny. It's in Washington Square Park until 9/20. She was just asked to adapt Caucasian Chalk Circle and has also written a screenplay called Short Order which incorporates Truck and Debt in a marvelous and surreal way."
Kathi Sanderlin [Wb96-98] received the prestigious Porterfield Award this spring at the SETC conference. Kathi is working on her MFA at the University of Georgia. She was cast as Thomasina in Stoppard's ARCADIA.
Amy [Poisson] & Patrick Sheehy [WB96-7] have also taken on Mr. Eamon Thomas Sheehy as a lifetime project!
Kendall Sherwood [WB07] An abridged version of This Side Up was performed at Athens Academy in Athens, GA in October 2007. This production, directed by Lorraine Thompson, was entered in the Georgia One-Act competition and received 4th place for its region. This Side Up was chosen as one of six finalists for The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival's John Cauble's Short Play competition for Region IV. The script was presented as a rehearsed reading of the script directed and presented by college students from around the Southeast.
Gwenn Victor & Paul Lieber [WB98] are proud parents of a baby boy. Congrats!
John Walch [WB96] presented CRAVING GRAVY as his thesis show last spring. His farce, JESTING WITH EDGED TOOLS, won the Marc Klein Playwriting Award sponsored by Case Western and was produced last November. CRAVING GRAVY was produced in Portland, OR last May.
